Context Sensitive Solutions Workshop
Thursday, Nov. 16, 11:30AM - 3:30PM

The Context-Sensitive Solutions Workshop will focus on the new road design manual authored by leading urban planners and transportation engineers to help communities create streets that build character and long-term value. Workshop participants will learn about changing standards in street design, the impacts of street design on a community, how to work with public works officials and DOTs, and key urban design features that support a strong community. Participants will also receive a free copy of the new manual, "Context Sensitive Solutions in Designing Major Urban Thoroughfares for Walkable Communities," produced by the Institute of Transportation Engineers and CNU.
Cost for the event is $40 for government officials and CNU members if registered before October 27, and $75 for all other participants and late registrants. Registration costs include lunch. Read more about the manual and download a PDF.
CNU Mountain West Cocktail Hour

Following the workshop on Thursday, the CNU Mountain West Chapter Organizing Committee will be hosting a cocktail hour to give locals and out-of-towners a chance to socialize and network. Cash bar.

CNU's 2006 Transportation Summit will bring together CNU members to advance transportation reform in communities across the country. This year we will focus on transportation modeling and street and place design. Speakers will include Dan Burden, Michael Ronkin and Elizabeth Macdonald. Participants should expect a high level of dialogue.
Friday will include presentations by top professionals about Boulder's twenty years of transportation reform, secrets of how to deal with zoning and design codes, complementary breakfast and lunch, a walking tour of Boulder's innovative downtown transformations, and an evening reception.
Saturday will include small group working sessions on Street and Place Design and Transportation Capacity planning. Groups will report back at lunch. The summit concludes at noon, but the opportunities to tour and explore innovations in street design continue into the evening (see below).
Total cost for the summit is $150 for government officials and CNU members if registered before October 27, and $225 for all other participants and late registrants. Hands-On Workshop for Retrofitting Major Urban Thoroughfares

Hotel Boulderado with site visit to Boulder's Transit Village Area
What does it take to retrofit an area of a community to move from a C-3 context-sensitive design zone to a C-4 or C-5? Continue Thursday's ITE street design workshop by experiencing Boulder's "Tale of Two Cities" and attending this hands-on workshop focused on 30th Street in East Boulder. It’s a hands-on problem-solving exercise that can be applicable to any community and may be instrumental in advising Boulder planners and policy makers on changes to make in this area. Cost: $20.
Insider's Social Hour in Prospect New Town

Hotel Boulderado (bus leaves at 4:45PM; returns around 7:30PM)
Visit this eclectic Longmont neighborhood that blends traditional and modern architecture in a New Urban setting. A unique chance to meet the developer and local residents to discuss day-to-day transportation issues over a traveling wine tasting that includes tours of several Prospect homes. Cost: $35.
