Join us in Denver: let's get together and help each other advance
Dear steve, <= br /> Since our hist= oric first gathering in Alexandria in 1993, urbanists have gathered in hallways,= on sidewalks, and in restaurants at the annual Congress for the New Urbanis= m, getting face-to-face and sharing knowledge, strategies, advice, and the moral support needed to forge ahead against separate-use codes, parking minimums, and other obstacles that stand in our way.
This year, I've been encouraged to see enthusiasm build for a very strong
17th Congress in a year when we need each other more than ever. If you've
had a chance to read the messages we've been sending about the Congress,
you know CNU 17 is an important opportunity to retool
for coming challenges, that demand is turning
sharply in our direction, and that new urbanist strategies pay
off in real dollars. You've seen how the Congress is geared up to
help you steer through current challenges and come out ahead, with session
clusters on cutting-edge topics such as retrofitting
sprawl, urb=
anism for
a green recovery, sustainable
transportation networks, code
reform, and innovative
housing design for today's market and more.
And CNU's board chair Ray Gindroz makes an outstanding point that what
is perhaps most valuable about the Congress is the immense resourcefulness
of the assembled CNU membership, waiting to be tapped in new ways. Here
is a message that Ray asked me to share with you. “Wit=
h so much uncertainty, there is also great
opportunity. New urbanists are now busy re-inventing the way in which
they find work, do the work, and promote it. Perhaps the most important
part of CNU 17 is not even on the agenda: It is the opportunities
you will have to learn from others about what they are doing in informal
discussions. Therefore, we urge you to all come to Denver, stay at
the Congress Hotel, and explore the future.“
On behalf of CNU and the board, I want you to know how much we hope you
bring your knowledge and willingness to learn and teach to Denver. We
look forward to seeing you in the halls of the Sheraton. I know you will
benefit from the experience. If there is anything about the Congress you
wish to discuss before or after you register, don't hesitate to call me
directly at 312-551-7300. And remember that early
registration savings end tomorrow.
Sincerely you= rs,
John Norquist
P.S. As you consider special tours and events at CNU 17, I personally
recommend the immersive
experiences at Denver new urbanist projects featuring critiques and
interaction with local officials, neighborhood representatives, and executi=
ve-level
members of the project team. I also recommend the in-depth, intimate New
Urbanism 202 seminars with an impressive group of new urbanist experts.=
Sessions led by skilled urbanists such as Dan
Parolek, Bob
Gibbs, Max
Reim, Shelley
Poticha, Eric
Dumbaugh,
Steve Maun, Ellen
Dunham-Jones , Hank
Dittmar, and Léon
and Rob Krier are opportunities to learn from the best in the business.=
