Dear [firstname], You are invited to join us in Portland, Ore., for CNU’s Transportation Summit 2009 from November 4-6. Registration is now open online and early registration pricing is available until October 15. Our annual summit is the best opportunity for professionals from a variety of disciplines—architecture, engineering, planning, and public policy, among others—to work together to reform our transportation networks. This year’s summit is especially exciting because of the momentum for transportation reform on the federal level. Earlier this year I testified before a House subcommittee about the link between neighborhood value and transportation networks, and we’re continuing our effort to make sure that the upcoming transportation bill is favorable to developing sustainable neighborhoods. Officials from USDOT and HUD will be present at the summit to talk about their new “sustainable communities” initiative being developed in collaboration with the EPA. In addition to presentations and speakers, the summit will feature working sessions, and there will be well-informed debate as we draft a statement of principles for Sustainable Transportation Networks. Portland is famous for its transportation infrastructure, and participants will have a chance to study the city’s successes first-hand through guided tours. These will include a cycling exploration of the city’s bikeways, an examination of local green street design, and tours of Portland’s transit mall and streetcar system. There will also be a special excursion to the town of Damascus, a recent addition to the area’s urban growth boundary. A briefing about the draft transportation plan for the expansion area will lead into a facilitated discussion of the proposal. Our hosts Marcy McInelly at SERA and the CNU Cascadia Chapter Organizing Committee welcome you to Portland. For the full summit agenda and further information, you can go to the official event page at cnu.org. Thanks to our sponsors Gateway Planning, the Oregon and Transportation and Growth Management Program, Alta Planning and Design, and the University of Connecticut, Center for Transportation and Urban Planning for making the 2009 summit possible. Information about becoming a sponsor (PDF) can be found on our website. I look forward to seeing you in Portland this November. Sincerely, John Norquist To remove your email address from future CNU e-Updates, please reply to cnuinfo@cnu.org with UNSUBSCRIBE in the subject line. Congress for the New Urbanism |
