Dover-Kohl Part of Team to Utilize Form-Based Code Plan for Charlotte Amalie
Submitted on 11/5/2012. Tags for this image:Governor John P. de Jongh, Jr. of the U.S. Virgin Islands has signed an executive order advancing a plan to revitalize downtown Charlotte Amalie and ensure the historic town's economic vitality.
The order endorses a summary report called The Town's Blueprint: A Vision and Code for Historic Charlotte Amalie. The community-supported report establishes guidelines based on form-based codes that use the physical form of buildings as the organizing zoning principle. The Virgin Islands Department of Public Works and the Department of Planning and Natural Resources are collaborating with the community to formulate a vision for the district incorporating its unique cultural and historical characteristics to ensure economic strength.
CNU mainstays Dover-Kohl & Partners were instrumental in creating the plan, having been selected by the Community Foundation of the Virgin Islands via grant funding courtesy of the Richard H. Driehaus Charitable Lead Trust. The plan for Charlotte Amalie will ensure the vibrancy of the historic village by protecting traditional building methods, connecting pedestrian and transit networks, and revitalizing the waterfront.
