The Congress for the New Urbanism is excited to announce the launch of a new homepage for its Designing Walkable Urban Thoroughfares initiative. The new website is now an excellent resource for anyone interested in learning more about this noteworthy street design manual. Designing Walkable Urban Thoroughfares: A Context Sensitive Approach was created as a partnership between CNU and the Institute of Transportation Engineers as part of the Project for Transportation Reform. The manual acts as a how-to document for the design and implementation of walkable urban streets.

The site is structured to provide information tailored to the reader. Advocates, architects, and interested urbanists can learn more about what the manual is and who around the country is using it. Visitors can read success stories and access information about how to help a community to adopt the manual. City planners and transportation engineers can view technical reports and read about past training workshops. All readers can download Designing Walkable Urban Thoroughfares for free and watch presentations about the manual to learn more.

“CNU believes that how streets are designed impacts all aspects of a place,” explains CNU Program Director Heather Smith. “This new website is intended to provide a more accessible resource for anyone interested in learning about our street design manual, which is helping to restore the social and economic functions of urban streets across the country.”
