John Norquist: We Should Build Cities Like Pizza

CNU President and CEO John Norquist lectured at Columbus State University on May 14 to a crowd of over 200. His message was simple - the ingredients of planning and development in the last few decades have been separated into individual parts (housing, retail, office space, etc...) - creating a similar effect to serving pizza by the individual ingredients. Without the blending of ingredients, cities like pizza, are dull and simplistic. The beauty of urbanism is the complexity - mixed-use buildings, variety in transit, and the diversity of building types, retail, and culture.
