New Urbanist Rick Cole, currently the city manager of Ventura, CA, recently wrote an op-ed piece about restoring luster to the Golden State. The California Dream of the past is now all but gone - over the past three or more decades the state has been a national model for traffic congestion, smog, and rampant sprawl. With the advent of SB 375, the state now has a framework in which to tackle carbon-emissions and sprawl. Cole argues that citizens and officials across competing regions of the state now must cooperate to reinvent the meaning of California.
