A Diamond in the Rough
The distant Chicago suburb of Round Lake may just turn out to be an impressive little New Urbanist place. On the current mayor's blog, http://eroundlake.com/blog/, this past summer he lauded the increased ridership that his local Metra station was seeing. But this new development takes the cake.
Tucked between posts on his Fantasy Football league, a one youngster's experience as mayor for a day, the mayor chronicled how he voted against a proposal to turn the local arterial, IL Rt. 120 into a 6 lane expressway, and voted to improve it to a four lane boulevard. The proposal he backed passed, and now one more community has been spared the destructive force of a freeway running through town. You've chosen homes over highways, Mr. Gentes, and we salute you.
