Retail and Sustainability
Two interesting, but unrelated, observations about the evolving role of retail in society.
The first are photographs by Brian Ulrich. He has been photographing retail in America as part of his "copia" project. His artist statement is worth a quick read. His posted portfolio includes sections entitled "retail", "thrift", and the link below "dark stores" (Or "ghost boxes" as we usually call them.)

The second is the research work of Mari Gallagher on urban "food deserts". Impoverished areas unserved by grocery stores so residence are left with fast food and convenience stores for their diets.
“Diet has a direct link to obesity, diabetes, and other diseases, and you can’t choose a healthy diet if you don’t have access to it,” Gallagher says.
