In a recent post at the NRDC Switchboard, Kaid Benfield discusses the travesty of a well-planned community rejecting transit. At King Farm in suburban D.C., an award-winning new urbanism master planned community has been created over the years, complete with all the bells and whistles. Included is a wide boulevard median planned for a light rail line - yes, it would connect in to the Washington D.C. Metro system. Lo and behold, the existing residents don't want a transit line to be built and threaten their quality of life.
