Do You <3 Bus Rapid Transit?
Supporters of bus rapid transit in Chicago are taking a drubbing from anti-BRT groups - at least, in the news coverage.
Streetsblog Chicago and the Active Transportation Alliance are hoping to change that. Join them for the Ashland BRT advocate social and BeeRT pub stroll on Tuesday, October 15, 5:30 p.m. at the Cobra Lounge, 235 North Ashland, just north of the Ashland/Lake "L" stop. The event is free and open to the public. Enjoy complimentary appetizers courtesy of Active Trans and share your enthusiasm for better transit with like-minded folks. Sign the petition endorsing the plan, and hear a short presentation from Alliance staffers about ways you can help support BRT, and the next steps for winning the battle over the future of Ashland:
Back when I was with Reconnecting America, we were often skeptical of BRT in the US because it always failed to meet the standards of Latin American bus rapid transit. The proposed Ashland BRT is an exception, meeting many of the criteria that make BRT in places like Curitiba so successful. I hope to see you next Tuesday.
