Hertfordshire Guide to Growth - 2021
Location: Hertfordshire, UK. County north of London
Hertfordshire County, immediately north of London, is the subject of a new regional planning policy called the East of England Plan. Each of six counties has been assigned mandatory growth targets. In the case of Hertfordshire the number is 83,200 dwellings by 2021. The local Councils and their planning departments have a short time frame to allocate this growth. If they do not succeed in doing so, the central planning at Whitehall will assign them.
In order to expedite this enormous public process and (hopefully) to arrive at a superior outcome, a group of Hertfordshire individuals, a university and a set of major businesses, commissioned this Guide to be the result of a charrette.
The process of consultation identified six potential scenario; and the positive and negative consequences of each were identified. Then, a very senior scientific research institution was commissioned to assess each of the scenarios objectively on the basis of eight criteria.
