Museum Place
Location: Fort Worth, Texas, 76107, United States of America. Former abandoned infill area adjacent to world-famous museum district and revitalized Downtown.
Museum Place is an 11 acre mixed-use infill development in Fort Worth's Cultural District, directly adjacent to the Modern Art Museum, Kimbell Art Museum, and Carter Art Museum. The project restores urbanity to an existing street grid and creates new neighborhood center. The development totals 1,050,000 square feet of infill: 173,000 square feet of retail space, 40 for-purchase condos, 500 apartments, and 130,000 square feet of Class A office space, plus a new 6,000 square foot Post Office designed by Robert Venturi.
Wide sidewalks, outdoor cafes, fountains, and pocket plazas create a pleasant pedestrian experience. The development is centered around a large new public plaza at 7th & Arch Adams. The development incorporates art pieces into the plazas, including one created by nature - a series of steel poles, formerly a billboard support, that were twisted into curves by a tornado in 2000, giving the project a great local historical context.
Architecture leans slightly traditional at the development's west edge where it adjoins existing retail buildings and residential neighborhoods, becoming progressively more contemporary as the development moves east towards the other large 7th Street mixed-use developments (West 7th, SoSeven) and Downtown.
Planned Fort Worth modern streetcar system runs directly through development, linking it with the rest of the Cultural District, Downtown, and the Near Southside.
