Parkview Commons is a new mixed use affordable housing development located on Elton Avenue fronting East 161st Street in the Melrose Commons Urban Renewal Area. Built on a former brownfield site, this nine story apartment building will contain 110 rental apartments for households of low income, 8,000 square feet of commercial space, and 29 on-site parking spaces. The building is configured so that the commercial space fronts East 161st Street with the residential portion wrapping around a landscaped plaza on Elton Avenue. Resident amenities include a residential lobby, community room, and an attractively landscaped recreational open space. The laundry facility is located on the ground floor and faces the outdoor play area designed for the children of Parkview Commons. The building's construction is a combination of concrete block bearing wall and concrete plank, structural metal stud walls and an exterior consisting of polychrome brick and reinforced masonry.
