THE PUBLIC REALM IN TWO HISTORIC CITY CENTERS
Location: Glasgow - Newcastle, UK. Historic city centers
This project involved the creation and implementation of comprehensive plans to address traffic congestion and improve streets and public spaces in two historic city centers. The plans guided the refurbishment and pedestrianization of major streets while expanding cultural and civic uses, improving the public realm to a level commensurate with leading European cities. The schemes fostered economic development while preserving and enhancing the cities’ historic and aesthetic appeal. The are a symbol of the rediscovered confidence in the United Kingdom’s northern cities.
