Richmond Livable Corridors
Location: Richmond, California. Neighborhood, District, and Corridor
This comprehensive revitalization plan, drafted by Opticos Design, Inc. prioritizes large scale, catalyst projects along the corridors; reinforces the existing character of neighborhoods and small, local businesses; and incentivizes incremental improvements to gradually increase density. The project phases in a decline in auto-dependency, planning for future road diets and natural increases in pedestrian, bike and transit transportation. Most importantly, it aims to rebrand the downtown and maximize opportunities near transit. Adding a market hall to the downtown reinforces the City’s urban agriculture efforts, and placing a new civic space at the gateway of the BART/Amtrak connection creates a sense of place and a formal entry to the City.
