A STRATEGIC FRAMEWORK FOR NORTH ALLSTON'S FUTURE
Location: Boston, MA United States. Harvard University District
An urban design framework to guide Harvard University's growth in a series of revitalized, diverse neighborhoods, not an exclusive district. In accommodating between 2,400 and 2,800 new housing units and a remarkable number of new academic, commercial, and civic buildings, the strategic framework organized development around pedestrian friendly streets, squares and parks. The lively new neighborhoods reap benefits associated with "civic density" by protecting traditionally-scaled neighborhoods and creating redevelopment at a variety of scales and densities. Formed through a highly inclusive process, the plan was ultimately hailed as an unique collaboration of university, city and neighborhood.
