Val D'Europe
Location: Marne-la-Vallee, France. A transit-oriented, mixed-use development 30 minutes by train from Paris in existing 1960s edge city
This new town is in one of five areas designated by the French government for managed growth as a way to control sprawl and preserve agricultural fields around Paris. Located 30 minutes from Paris by rail, it includes four distinct neighborhoods linked together by a perimeter boulevard and served by commuter highways and a commuter rail line. The first phase of the project is nearing completion, and includes a train station/town center with ground-floor retail and restaurants, a hotel, and residential and office buildings. At build-out, the town will offer 1800 residential units, a university, four schools, a hospital, and a variety of public and cultural institutions.
