THE VILLAGE AT PALMETTO BLUFF
Location: Bluffton, SC United States. Low-country traditional neighborhood
The core of a low-country traditional neighborhood development, the Village is carefully sited along the May River and organized around the ruins of a 19th century mansion. The village center is composed of mixed-use commercial and civic buildings, all facing a village green. For the buildings – a sales center, a post office, a general store (with offices and condominium above), and chapel – the design team studied local architectural precedent, as well as the South’s most endearing villages such as Beaufort. The resulting structures, with their architectural authenticity and careful sitting below century-old oak trees, evoke a timeless sense of place and foster an early identity for the community.
