The Wilderness Downtown
A few weeks ago Arcade Fire released their new album, The Suburbs. Now the band has teamed up with Google to create an HTML5 music video. But this isn't any old music video. Featuring the song "We Used To Wait," the video combines the music of Arcade Fire with Google Maps and Google Street View images to create a personal experience for every viewer.
When you enter the site (which has only been tested with the Google Chrome browser), the first thing you are prompted to do is to enter the address of the home you grew up in. Then when the video plays, aerial shots of your neighborhood as well as street-level images of your street are incorporated into the video.
Arcade Fire's approach to this video is an innovative way of immersing its viewers into the music. It's especially powerful if the home you grew up in was in a sprawling suburb.
So what are you waiting for? Check out the video for yourself!
