Indiantown Sustainable Transportation Network

CNU member Ed Erfurt brings our attention to the Martin County (FL) Community Redevelopment Agency's efforts to develop a sustainable transportation network for Indiantown, a rural community near Lake Okeechobee. See below for further information on The Indiantown Sustainable Transportation Network, and the attached presentation from Ian Lockwood outlining such ideas.

The mission of the Martin County Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) is to oversee the revitalization of Martin
County's seven defined Community Redevelopment Areas. Projects within CRA communities are implemented based on
the community’s action plan, which identifies both opportunities and deficiencies and subsequently prioritizes
redevelopment needs. The CRA administers a trust fund generated by Tax Increment Financing (TIF) revenues within
each CRA which, in addition to grants, is used to finance a variety of projects within CRA neighborhoods. To date, the
CRA has successfully completed a number of projects that improve the physical environment and boost the economy of
CRA communities.

The Indiantown Sustainable Transportation Network is designed to improve the local transportation network within
Indiantown, a rural community located within western Martin County near Lake Okeechobee. The current
transportation network within Indiantown relies heavily on the use of 710/Warfield Boulevard, the main thoroughfare
for both local access to businesses and services, in additional to regional use through its designation as a Strategic
Intermodal System (SIS) facility. As a community that relies heavily on walking, biking, and alternative transportation
such as golf carts, the limited availability of alternative street networks within Indiantown results in a conflict between
local users and highway thru traffic on 710/Warfield Boulevard...
