Submitted by Filmanowicz on Thu, 04/12/2007 - 12:05pm
Description:
Cities across North America are removing freeways to ignite
reinvestment. Recognizing the destruction of neighborhoods
and land values caused by urban freeways, communities are
choosing alternatives that restore torn fabric through rich
street networks and create value through good design.
Going beyond reactive solutions to traffic, communities are
developing proactive approaches to place-making. This session
will focus on balancing transportation with land use and
designing infrastructure to leverage opportunities for urban
development. The “talk-show” format will provide a lively
examination of the dynamics of real estate development
before, during, and after urban freeways are replaced with
beautiful streets, blocks and squares.
