The North Carolina Senate's Big Act
Submitted by Ben Schulman on Fri, 06/17/2011 - 4:34pmAlthough Governor Bev Perdue - a Democrat - now heads North Carolina, one would hardly equate the Tar Heel State as a capital of big government. In the land of states' rights, logic would seemingly dictate that the North Carolina state legislature would allow for local municipalities to operate free from interference.

Andrew Howard's Better Block Parties
Submitted by Ruth Walker on Sun, 06/05/2011 - 8:19amIt is sometimes objected to new urbanism that it’s somehow inauthentic - that streets where the houses have front porches and communities built around a town center may have more to do with stage design than the way real people live today.
Complete Streets or Complete Networks?
Submitted by Ruth Walker on Sun, 06/05/2011 - 7:19amThe “complete streets” idea - the concept that streets need to be designed for all users, including pedestrians and cyclists as well as SUVS and fire trucks - has caught on well in recent years. Maybe it’s caught on too well, in fact.
