During every one of those seminars, speeches, and the like, I offered what I thought were important responses and potential solutions for cities to embrace to counter unsustainable development.

Focus on Sustainable Urbanism

The event will be put on by Farr Associates and the Foresight Design Initiative to educate graduate students and professionals about sustainable infrastructure, livable community design, smart growth, and the public realm. Doug Farr will lead studio projects, field visits, lectures, and readings. This opportunity will go beyond the basic 'green building' understanding of sustainable urbanism and explore the concept more in depth.

Panelists included Mayor John DeStefano, Jr., Tony Garcia, and Alison Richardson. Richardson, landscape architect, discussed the often forgotten parks in Boston's Big Dig, Garcia tackled the socioeconomic consequences of Miami's Overtown Expressway, and Mayor DeStefano talked about New Haven's current plans for Route 34.
