Local Street Networks and the Future of Claiborne Avenue

Local experts in community development, planning, transportation and architecture will present research and reflections on the future of Claiborne. National street design expert Eric Dumbaugh will discuss the Corridor’s current design as well as present research on the efficiency and safety of connected street networks.

Norquist Speaks at Smart Growth Summit

The Summit included a series of workshops and lectures highlighting the benefits of Smart Growth developments. Under the theme of "Crisis and Opportunity: Placemaking in a Time of Economic Uncertainty," panelists debated best practices of community design for livability and economic revival.
HUD Announces 2011 Sustainable Communities Grantees
Submitted by lili.rudis on Mon, 11/21/2011 - 3:06pmThe Office of Sustainable Housing and Communities has announced the winners of the FY2011 competitions for the Sustainable Communities Regional Planning and Community Challenge grant programs. This new round of funding will invest almost $96 million in 27 communities and 29 regions to help each establish its own blueprints for a more livable, equitable, and economically competitive future. These grants join the 87 HUD Sustainable Communities grants announced last year.

Congress for the New Urbanism’s members came out in force as key presenters at this conference, which brings together many disciplines in the premier forum for stormwater practice collaboration.

While it is easy to look towards property owners as the main culprits in stalling such redevelopment, there may be another factor.
